At the start of the quarter my ideal imagined citizen was a beautiful college student named Lana Roberts. She was not only pretty but she was very intelligent, attending UC Berkeley. Also, she was athletic by participating in soccer and swimming. She was family-orientated, caring, and just an all around fun loving girl. She liked all the music and movies that a usual college student would like John Mayer or Lil Wayne. However, if I had to change Lana now I don’t think I would make her so “perfect.” I would have her be more original and uncommon in some way. Maybe I would have made her participate in ping pong instead of soccer. Or maybe I would have made her have pink hair. Anything to make her more original would be portraying a more common person. Like in the Michael Warner excerpts there is just no way someone can be normal. Lana being good at everything is just not normal. She may be ideal because she can do all these things but there is no way this can be considered normal.
By having our topic for the course the rhetoric of service and activism I have been able to learn a lot more about writing and research. I have never really been involved in a course that deals with writing rhetorically, so this was a fun new challenge. I learned a lot about ethos, pathos, logos, and about using the method and I think these techniques will help me write better in the future. Also activism as a topic allowed me to think more about getting involved with an activism movement and just trying to participate in something that I feel strongly about. All these things that I have learned throughout this quarter have allowed me to acquire the necessary tools to make my writing better. I plan to use all these tools in any papers for my future classes.

I also have never been in a writing analytically course so that was new to me as well. It was challenging however I think that I learned a lot and improved as a writer. I took a lot of the same things from the class as you did: participating more in service and getting involved in an activist movement. And also much improved writing skills that I will be able to use in later classes.
ReplyDeleteI like the change that you made in your ideal citizen of originally having a very generalized individual to an original, unique person. I agree that your first ideal citizen would be impossible to find. No one is perfect and no one is normal. I would also have to agree that this class was a challenge in writing analytically. I too learned a lot from this class, particularly the use of logos, ethos and pathos.
